PHT Morning Skate: The Adirondack Phantoms give you nightmare fuel

Nov 29, 2011, 7:00 AM EDT

Adirondack Phantoms 80's night

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

The Senators are finally shutting up about the Nick Foligno-Sidney Crosby stuff already. Here we were hoping Eugene Melnyk was going to jump in and go over the top. Darn. (Ottawa Sun)

It’s been three years for Brian Burke at the helm of the Maple Leafs and his plan is finally coming together. (Globe And Mail)

Canadiens call up 2009 first-round pick and Montreal native Louis Leblanc for the first time. Probably a good thing they’re doing this on the road. No pressure, kid. (Canadiens)

According to Paul MacLean, now all Nikita Filatov needs to do is just score in Ottawa. Fingers crossed. (Senators Extra)

With how bad things are in Anaheim, the Ducks are sticking by Ryan Getzlaf as their captain. (OC Register)

With Bruce Boudreau out in Washington, the pressure to win shifts to GM George McPhee. (CSNWashington.com)

The Kings won’t have Scott Parse to sit in the press box anymore, he’s done for the year with hip surgery. (L.A. Kings Insider)

Finally, it’s what you clicked on this post to see. The AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms hyped up their recent 80’s Night promotion by making their own video to Starship’s “We Built This City.” You’ll never see Kevin Marshall, Tye McGinn, Luke Pither, and Jason Akeson the same way ever again. Brian Burke was in a no lose situation in Toronto since they stunk for years and the low bar of making the playoffs might make everyone happy up there. If that’s what motivated what may wind up being a stupid deal, then maybe he’s not as smart as he thinks he is. Kessel for a draft package that turned out to be Seguin and Hamilton may have been a big overpayment considering Burke could have given up a lot less with an offer sheet that the Bruins probably would not have matched. But give him credit for selling Kaberle to Boston at the right time for a very good return.
