Turgeon is a hypocrite anyway. This is the same guy who cracked a rookie in the head with a stick in Dallas stars training camp 10 years ago.

I was a Pens fan that grew up in the late 1980′s and remembered watching Turgeon in games primarily when he played for the Sabres and Isles and respecting him a lot for his leadership and sportsmanship, so it’s not surprising to see this now. Another guy from that era that I think of in a somewhat similar manner is LaFontaine.

The hell with hunter. The isles went on to defeat heavily favorite, defending champs, Pittsburgh. Then lost to Montreal. The Isles never recovered from that hit. Never coming close to the finals again. He should never be forgiven for that mugging.

It is classy–and healthy– on Turgeon’s part to move past the incident. Ed Westfall had it right, however. That was not a hockey play. Hunter “mugged” Turgeon.

It was a criminal act and Hunter should have been arrested. If I were the late Dennis Dillon–Nassau County DA at the time–I would have had him arrested and released on bail. I would then have made it very clear to the NHL that Hunter would be given probation on condition that he be suspended for a year and come back to Nassau County to do community service.

That did not happen and, to my knowledge, Hunter has never made amends to Turgeon. He ought to do so publicly. That would show some class on his part.
