funny you should say that since sid, bylsma, and mario cry about these things more than anyone else. yet they commit these dirty plays just as much as any team in the league.

Murray’s point is a valid one. Hes saying that the league just said its ok to hit someone in the face with the butt end of your stick when they bump your goalie. Which is true since Crosby did in fact throw a butt end and was not penelized for it… which means its fine in the eyes of the league.

I know Crosby fans try to say its not a big deal but funny enough Don Cherry, the biggest Crosby fan of them all, was very quick to jump on Crosby for his actions, even if for slightly different reasons. Bottom line is it was a dirty play from a player who (along with his team) has spent the last year whining about dirty plays. Its hypocricy, and on top of that the league is giving the green light to such plays.

The really interesting thing is whats going to happen the next time someone throw a butt-end like that? If Shanahan does the right thing and suspended them… thats going to look realllll good. If he doesn’t, your going to see cheap shots like that all the time since it will be considered ok. For someone whos trying to get dirty plays out of the league by brute force, Shanahan really dropped the ball on this one.

Is there something in the water in Pittsburgh that turns a person into a total hypocrite? Last October, Matt Cooke deliberately ran RDP not once, not twice, but three times and was penalized each time. When a player does that three times, is penalized each time, and is not benched, he is clearly doing it at his coach’s behest. And this to a goalie who has had an almost legendary injury history.

The thing is, it was this episode that led to RDP knocking Cooke off his skates in the 2/2/11 game which led to the goalie brawl which led to the 2/11/11 brawlgame…and an endless stream of hypocritical comments by Bylsma and more especially by his owner. I guess there’s one standard for Saint Mario and Saint Sid and their minions and another for the rest of us poor underlings.

Wow, why is this still a big deal?
I saw the video of Murray talking and he initiated the discussion about it. He was not prompted.

If you bump a goalie, you’re going to take some shots. If Brooks Orpik was the one giving them out, it wouldn’t have even been mentioned in the recap of the game. Murray and everybody else needs to calm down.
