Patrick Eaves taken to hospital after being hit by slap shot

In the scariest scene of an injury-ravaged Saturday night, Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves left the ice on a stretcher during a game against the Nashville Predators. The unsettling moment happened after Predators defenseman Roman Josi‘s slap shot caught him in the ear.

The Red Wings report that Eaves has been taken to the hospital, but didn’t provide further updates. Eaves had just returned to action for Detroit after being a healthy scratch.

It must have been an unnerving situation for Josi, as well; he was participating in his first NHL game.

That’s a horrifying accident, but hopefully Eaves won’t deal with major issues from a moment of incredibly bad luck. Click here for video of the unnerving incident.

Scary; it reminds me of the time (also at The Joe) when Chris Pronger was hit in the chest by a shot, and had his heart stop for a couple of beats! “Prongs” left that game on a gurney, as well (and put “paid” to those rumors that he was totally heartless!) Hope Eaves will be all right, but gettin’ hit in the ear has “concussion” written all over it.

Very scary indeed. Hope Eaves is alright.

Bigger helmets and full cages for everyone. The players today are stronger, faster and their sticks capable of propelling those pucks at greater speeds than ever. Someone is going to get killed unless the league improves the head gear..
