PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Yup, the Islanders wore their third jerseys last night and no, it didn’t help them beat the Flyers. They at least played a little bit better than they have been losing in overtime. (CSNPhilly)

Speaking of bad teams, Adrian Dater of The Denver News is pretty sure he’s covering one in the Colorado Avalanche. (All Things Avs)

Also playing horrible? The Anaheim Ducks who lost their 14th game in their last 16. Save them Teemu, you’re their only hope. (OC Register)

Ron Hainsey was thrown to the wolves in returning from injury. (Winnipeg Sun)

Former Capitals forward Eric Fehr was a bit conflicted playing against the Caps in Washington last night as a member of the Winnipeg Jets. (CSNWashington)

Antti Niemi pulled out all the stops shutting out his former Chicago teammates in a 1-0 Sharks win. (CSNBayArea)

Did you know that Tomas Fleischmann is a wizard? Just ask the Rangers about his skills. (Sun-Sentinel)

Finally, with 13 games going on last night you probably wound up missing something. Here’s’s look at all the best of last night’s action. (NHL)

The Islanders were CONSIDERABLY better last night and should have won in large part due to a fine performance by Kyle Okposo who seems to have awoken from hibernation. They were betrayed by a terrible performance from Rick DiPietro who can no longer be considered an NHL goalie. Cappy was killed by many for sitting him in favor of prospect Anders Nilsson but the fact is that RDP has been the fourth best of the four goalies the NYI have iced this season. NYI need to Redden RDP.

What very strange thing do we see if we look at the standings?? We see that, while, yes, there is a long, long way to go in this season, BUT… if the playoffs started tomorrow… drum roll… louder please… the ONLY CANADIAN TEAM IN THE PLAYOFFS WOULD BE THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS!!!!! And that would officially be one of the funniest things ever! And Phil Kessel would be the first Leaf ever to win the Art Ross Trophy as top NHL scorer. The last time a Leaf led the NHL in points was 1938, before they created that award and Gordie Drillon had 52 points in 48 games.
