We’re a few days late on this one, but the Orlando Sentinel published a story Wednesday in which former NHL player Dave Andreychuk advised NBA players to get a deal done and end the lockout before the season is officially canceled.

“In the end, it will be worse,” warned Andreychuk, now Tampa Bay’s Vice President of Fans. (Seriously, that’s his title. Guess it’s better than Senior Associate of Fans.)

Andreychuk isn’t the first former NHL player to implore NBA players to suck it up and take what the owners are offering. Bill Guerin said the same thing in October.

Looking back on the lost 2004-05 NHL season, Andreychuk remembers what it was like to be locked out.

“As the pressure built — after a month, two months, three months — it started to sink in,” he said. “Guys were saying to themselves, ‘I’m 25 years old and hockey is how I make my living. We need to get a deal done.’”

Andreychuk concludes, “At the end, we were so willing to sign, we had to agree to what the owners wanted. We gave back a tremendous amount just to get a deal done so we could go back to work.”

In a related story, NHLPA chief Donald Fehr has emailed Andreychuk the link to the following video:

Dave’s duties range from color commentary on television and radio broadcasts, charitable contributions and appearances in the community, representing the team in official capacities (such as the Draft and/or lottery), and numerous fan relations activities and fundraisers. I know it is quite chic to laugh since they are the Lightning (what’s the matter, you pulling a whiny Holmgren because they beat your favorite team, too?) but don’t act like each and every other team doesn’t give one of their former legends a role like this*. Jeff Vinik is world-class.

    So bite me.

*except Florida – their only legend is a dead rat.

Sounds like a respectable job to me. Yup, Vinik knows what he’s doing.

Is he responsible for the fans they already have (all 8 of them)? In that case, it’s a easy check. Or is he responsible for new fans? In that case, he’s not exactly doing a bang up job

The Lightning have over 13,000 full season ticket holders. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me. That also isn’t his title. You should look it up.

NBA players to Dave, Shut up you meddling know it all. You aren’t a lawyer, you have nothing to do with the NBA, and really no professional sports league since you no longer play in the NHL. You don’t know the siuation, you don’t know the people involved, or the moving pieces, the reasons for the lockout. Go join T.O. and the Ryan brothers on don’t say stupid stuff island.
