The absolutely WORST part here. He even takes a shot at goal after injuring Bieksa. And had he scored it would have counted.

What, you were expecting Mike Milbury, the US version of Don Cherry, to call the Bruins dirty? The same guy who went after a fan with his own shoe? He has nothing but love for the style of play and has little understanding of the NHL as it is now. Or maybe he was a genius when he traded Luongo away to bank his team’s future on a young Rick DePietro…

BTW, he’s on CBC as well, not that we want him up here in Canada.

Higgins did a fine job with that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N_cjCfPPb8 Seems he couldn’t get out of the way fully coming across the blueline and Chara went down like a 6’9″ tonne of bricks. He still made more of an effort to do so than Lucic did to avoid Miller or Ryder did to avoid Blair Jones (in the ECF).

Ironic to look at it now and see the reaction (or lack thereof) by Boston players. Their captain’s on the ice and no one does anything apart from a little push and shove after the play is already over. Boston fans point to Buffalo not reacting to support their goalie when Lucic runs over Miller but it seems no one is immune and hockey’s pretty much the same all over.

When can people get it through their heads that nothing is so left or right as people are trying to make this out to be? Bruins play hard and are guilt of some borderline hits as a result. The Canucks hit as well (they actually outhit the Bruins by a fair amount all playoffs long, even in the SCF) but played to their skilled strengths more and were seen as soft or elitist.

Are the Bruins the dirtiest team ever? No. Are the Canucks the most arrogant? No. They both have their positives and negatives and they got to the finals (and to 7 games in the finals no less) because they deserved to be there.

So, Recchi answers a question he was asked and it’s fine (for Bruins fans). Luongo does the same about Thomas and his style of play and Bruins fans are up in arms! Talk about a sense of entitlement and immunity from reality.

Everyone’s been talking about the Chara hit from before the playoffs, or the Marchand/Boychuck incidents in the SCF, but I’m still completely amazed that Ryder never got anything for his hit on Blair Jones in the ECF. I hardly heard about that in the media but Rome’s hit was vilified to no end!

Just for clarification. Rome’s hit on Horton wasn’t dirty. It was late and Horton didn’t see it coming cause he was looking at the puck. He got blasted and his head hit the ice hard.

We don’t play dirty. Did you ever hear any of the talking heads call us dirty on the wall to wall coverage by NHL Network, Versus, or NBC during the Finals? Am I missing something here? I’d even be interested if CBC called B’s dirty during Finals. We only got replayed games coverage of Finals of CBC on NHL USA, so I’ not as up to knowing what the CBC talking heads were saying about Bruins during Finals. I must be naive, but let’s set something straight: The Canucks thought they were going to intimidate the crap out of the Bruins, and then they grew vaginas & the bullies got taken to Woodshed by a better T.E.A.M. I’m personally going to be fascinated to see how Canucks respond this season to the post traumatic stress inflicted by the Bruins in last season’s Finals.

1) Wasn’t Eager on the Thrashers last year?
2) The playstyle I’ve described is almost the exact opposite of how the Blackhawks play, save maybe Carcillo. But in the games I’ve watched even he hasn’t been very Carcillo-y.

3) You’re really going to use the Sharks as an example to defend the Canucks? I mean, granted, they do dive as bad as Vancouver, and they do have a history of coming up weak in the playoffs. But they don’t exactly have a history dirty play like Vancouver.

Would love to know how playing dirty relates to having tough guys? So a question then – why play dirty when you don’t have to? You’ve accurately pointed out that the Bruins have some tough players – so why not play tough, instead of dirty? Those are two different animals.

You think this is “tough”? Bieksa ended up with a sprained MCL from this. Is that “tough”?

I actually USED to like Lucic (watched him play all his junior here in Vancouver). Something changed when he got to Boston though. He used to be a clean, honest, hard player. Now he’s dirty. I guess that’s what happens when you get to Beantown.

This article is GREAT but at the same time very sad. The league is going to regret their decisions to turn a blind eye to the Bruins brutality when they “accidentally” kill a player in the middle of a game. If they think their precious US ratings are bad now wait till that happens!
