Islanders display new third jerseys; What do you think?

Nov 16, 2011, 8:49 PM EDT

The New York Islanders tend to do things their way, for better or worse. Sometimes that means barring journalists from covering their team, other times they blaze a new trail by signing a goalie for 10+ years or making another netminder their general manager. In the case of their latest third jerseys, the Islanders went back in time ever so slightly.

While the latest third jersey trend was to roll out baby blue duds, the Isles jumped on the previous trend of going black. We already asked how the general concept sizes up to some of their worst looks ever, but now you can see what they look like on an actual Islanders player. Here are a few highlights from the Islanders’ third jersey gallery (view the full things here).

If you want one more look, here’s a shot of a big chunk of the team wearing the new duds. Now that you’ve had a chance to assess them, let us know how you feel about the third jerseys in the comments and in this poll.

Bruins fan here and quite a collector of logo apparel. Here is what I like about them. I like the tie-up neck and the gussets on the sides. I’m glad teams have gone back to the laces. It reminds me of when MLB went back to the button up shirts. I like the simplicity in the embroidery. And I like the subtle patch on the shoulders with the logo. There is enough color in them, but they aren’t quite gaudy.

Overall, not bad for an alternate sweater. It could grow on you. That being said, I wouldn’t buy one unless I was an ardent fan and they were winning. Now if I got it as a gift….

Yes. I still wear that B’s third mustard colored jersey from several years back with the bear face on front.

As another B’s fan, I’m not sure there are many alternates worse than the Gold with the silly bear on them…..the Rangers with Lady Liberty are silly, too, but at least they’re Patriotic.

Also, they’re not HIDEOUSLY YELLOW. Oh well. At least your players aren’t the poor bastards on the Predators, right? And you have those fucking awesome black ones with the bear on, too. I love those things.

I think I want to throw up. What a load of uncreative crap

    Bring back the Gorton’s Fisherman….Mmmmmmmm….Fish Sticks….

  4. icelovinbrotha215 - Nov 16, 2011 at 9:04 PM

Eh…they will have to grow on me.

  5. stratomaticfan - Nov 16, 2011 at 9:28 PM

Hey…at least they’re not the Gorton’s Fisherman jerseys, right?

  6. bcisleman - Nov 16, 2011 at 9:54 PM

As third sweaters (the traditional hockey name), they’re OK. I just don’t care for this sort of gimmickry. Keep it traditional…although if they were to win one much less four Cups in that get up, it might grow on me!

Awful, awful, and awful – which happens to be a description of the state of this once proud franchise.

They look like adult league jerseys

James O’Brien likes to create his own version of history.

Barring journalists from covering team? Oh you mean the teams former media relations coordinator who was out looking for work three years ago after he resigned and the Isles again paid to write for them.

He was so grateful once the gm stopped talking to him he took a public tantrum and went on a vendetta, the Isles decided to move on from him and then every chance he could he attacked the gm, owner, the prices, parking and then claimed (despite agent saying absolutely not) the clubs efforts to sign players were staged stories.

Let’s see him pull that junk on any other NHL franchise and see how long he keeps any credential as a blogger. He writes like he’s scared to death of Dolan because he pulls that at Msg he’s not only out, but sued like Marv Albert.

Kevin Allen would not support him as PHWA President, his buddy, Isles hater Larry Brooks is in his corner, but will turn on him the minute he calls out the Cablevision Rangers.

Funny how the Flyers hired Bob Clarke from the ice to be gm, and what about co gm’s with Brett Hull in Dallas?

Nor were the Isles the first team to give out front-loaded contracts over ten years.

Jersey is not good, but there have been worse. Not like they wear Orca Bay as their logo.

Now we are that much closer to EA finally giving out the jersey code so we can wear Winnipeg Jets jerseys

  11. danphipps01 - Nov 17, 2011 at 3:48 AM

I’m not liking how many jerseys these days just have the team name in their colours. I’m also not liking how EVERYBODY HAS TO HAVE BLACK. Come on, people, CREATIVITY! It’s not even that I don’t like this particular jersey – the colours and patterns aren’t bad, if nothing else – but it’s EXACTLY WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS. It’s so BORING.

    • govtminion - Nov 17, 2011 at 4:34 AM

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s black- just like everyone else’s. Pass.

Totally honest, I preferred the shock-OMG-orange ones they wore a while back, but I grew up a Denver Broncos fan, so I guess I’m not as horrified by orange as some.

Instead of a third jersey can we get a third goal

    • govtminion - Nov 17, 2011 at 10:21 AM

Or get rid of a third goalie?

  13. vshehane - Nov 17, 2011 at 7:50 AM

Actually we Preds fan absolutely love the yellow. It is very obvious when you are in our arena. They took a little getting used to but I like the idea a being different. That’s how we roll down south.

  14. treydogg97 - Nov 17, 2011 at 8:11 AM

    They look like the Knicks…

  15. cshearing - Nov 17, 2011 at 8:53 AM

I just think they are very bland. Don’t love them, don’t hate them. They evoke nothing in me.
