I’ll agree. Chara has had the same issue, more than a few elbowing calls when it’s really unavoidable at his size- someone like Chara or Myers almost has to raise their elbow just to AVOID an elbowing call. Watching Chara cover Martin St. Louis in the playoffs last year was almost comical from that regard.

Definitely an elbow there, worth a penalty, but if he gets a suspension I’d be surprised.

Probably right. Hard not to accidentally headshot a guy when you’re most of the way to seven freaking feet tall.

Its interesting because Myers is 6’8″ and Zubrus is 6’3″. That height gap makes me think that the elbow making contact to the head was not Myers intent, but rather the unfortunate confluence of events. Myers skates around, anticipating to curve back to his right to check Zubrus. If Zubrus isn’t slumping down a little as he goes to accelerate toward the puck, the elbow makes contact with his chest. Myers did once escape discipline on an illegal headshot he put on Johnny Boychuk, so he’s not really a first time offender. I predict a 1 game suspension with a lecture about keeping his elbows in.

This is going to have to be a suspension, injury on the play or no. He spends over a second setting up to absolutely clobber him, and then plants an elbow square in his face. If that isn’t targeting the head, I don’t know how you could rule on it at all, doesn’t get any more obvious than that. Maybe if you painted a giant X on their face, and then elbow dropped them to the ice.
