Yes, Shanahan played with Kronwall. As he was with the Wings during Kronwall’s first two NHL seasons (’03-’04 & ’05-’06). I agree that it’s hard to think of Kronwall as playing before the lockout though.

Kronwall was lucky that his shoulder hit the boards first and not his head. He’s definitely going to see at least 2 games.

Whatever Stewart gets, Shanahan will end up getting called a homer for suspending a guy that hit his former team. (By people that never watch this video to get a clear picture that Shanahan has no choice but to suspend this guy…)

You might be right about that lighter punishment for a first offense, atteckus, but I think that is still 5 or 6 games. Cooke or someone would probably get 10-15.

2-3 games. Stewart has no prior disciplinary record. Its a bad hit. It doesn’t matter whether Kronwall is hurt or not, nor does it matter that Kronwall has his own reputation. Stewart’s intent was to hit from behind and put an opposing player into the boards, head first. That’s what earns the supplementary discipline. If he had a prior record of issues, then I’d agree with some of the bigger predictions. But his reputation is as a clean, hardnosed player. First offense gets a much lighter punishment.

I’m Blues fan and im not going to stick up for Stewy on this one. It was a terrible terrible and quite honestly I hope he gets suspended for at least 4 games so he learns not to do it agin because that was the type of hit that can also really hurt a players spine,back and head (concussion).

He’s staring at his numbers from the middle of the ice to the boards and still decides to run him from behind even though he never has the puck. 5 games at least

Blues made the playoffs in the 2008-09 season.

I think he gets 5-7 games for this wreckless play. Pushed dangerously into the boards from behind when he doesn’t even have control of the puck.

He’s gone. Hit from behind. Kronwall didn’t have the puck. Defenseless player. Injury on the play….what was Stewart thinking? I mean, some of Shanahan’s calls have been…questionable, but this is pretty much the textbook definition of a hit they want to eliminate. Wouldn’t be surprised if he got 10 games+ — I mean, lesser acts have gotten the wrath of the Shanaban. Wouldn’t want to be Stewart tomorrow.

2 game suspension.

But can we talk about the Blues for a second here? Won 3 out of 4, with 1 OTL since Hitchcock arrived. Now tied with the “red hot” Red Wings. Killed 6 power plays tonight, including a 5 minute one earned by Stewart on that hit. I don’t want to put too much emphasis on this one, rather short streak but things are looking good for the Blues to return to the playoffs for the first time since the lockout.
