Just to back up your point, here are the NHL rules: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26331

Rule 42 - Charging
42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner.
Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice.
A minor, major or a major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease.
A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease area. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goalkeeper. However, incidental contact, at the discretion of the Referee, will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

The focus should be less on the Sabres being soft and more on the hit itself. Regardless of whether people think hitting a goalie that far out is legitimate or not, the fact is current precedents in the NHL say that play is a no-no. Miller as such could be seen as an unsuspecting recipient of a questionable hit. This is further compounded by the fact that Lucic only got 2 minutes; for a team like Boston that constantly plays on the edge, this only acts to justify stepping over the line. Yes the Sabres should have acted in a stronger way for the sake of their team, but I find it silly that they are the ones receiving the most flak for the ordeal.

Yeah, Id have to say the Sabers are pretty damn soft. While I think Lucic's hit was fine given how far out of the net Miller was.... you still have to kick some ass if your goalie gets hit like that. You don't just go and shove the guy a couple times after he bowled over your goalie, you make him pay for it. I honestly could not believe Lucic didn't have to drop the gloves after the hit. How can you call the Sabers anything but soft at that point.

The Sabres are a soft team and have been for years. When Gomez was with the Rangers and ran Miller his teammates reacted the same way. Adding Ehrhoff and Leino won't do it either. The Sabres core players are weak and soft, and come up small in big moments. A huge shake up (trades) is necessary. Now that there is no cap space it probably won't happen.
