Where does headbutting fall on Shanahan’s punishment list? We’ll find out soon

Patrick Kaleta will be hearing from Brendan Shanahan today and with his prior history it won’t likely turn out well for him.

Kaleta is getting talked to by the league thanks to his headbutting incident with Philly’s Jakub Voracek during last night’s 3-2 Flyers win. If you’re thinking that headbutts are rare, they’re nothing new for Kaleta. Last season Kaleta was fined by the NHL for attempting to headbutt Travis Zajac.

You can see video of the apparent headbutt here from the NHL’s website.

With Shanahan bringing in a new heavy hand for action, Kaleta could be looking at a short vacation for his actions on Voracek.┬áKaleta also has a suspension history with the NHL. Shanahan has enough material in Kaleta’s past to work with here to take action if he sees fit. Headbutting is a no-no on a few different levels.

Tillman40 is a no talent scrub too, that’s why he’s such a good judge of character.
I bet he and his frat bros drink every time Kaleta puts somebody into the boards…
    Kaleta is awesome then.

This really didn’t look like a “headbutt”… at least not an intentional headbutt. Its hard to tell from the video, but it looks like he was just lowering his head while scumming for the puck. Thats actually a good way to hurt yourself to be honest.

Perhaps a fine might be in order, but I fail to see this as suspension worthy. Unless of course there is another camera angle that shows clear intent.

it’s not a classic headbutt, but he was not playing the puck at that moment either. he pretty much launched his head into Voraceks head. not sure it is suspension worthy, but a little sinister in any case. stay classy kaleta.

Not sure about that so much. The one they should be looking at is Ehrhoff’s hit on Van Riemsdyk when JVR beats the icing out. Ehrhoff sticks his stick in JVR’s skates and elbows him from behind, sending him head first into the boards while JVR is going for the puck.

Kaleta is a heart and soul guy who plays gritty. It cracks mu up to hear guys call him gutless, and things of that nature. He has fought huge guys and Kaleta is a little guy, 5’10 come on…
