Two things here.

First of all, its funny that Mr. "My summer starts in March" Thorton over here is calling anyone soft. If he wasn't so soft in the playoffs, the Sharks probably would have won a cup by now.

Second, you don't get to trash talk right after a team just man handled you. It was not a fluke win for the Rangers in which they were horribly out played and just happened to score a couple lucky goals.... they controlled the play for most of the game and simply beat up on the Sharks.

Thorton can go trash talk all he wants, but the fact is hes wrong. The Rangers beat the hell out of the Sharks, and hes one of the lamest playoff players of all time. Quit crying Joe and worry about your own team.... something you have a lot of trouble doing in April.

silly to say in the first weeks of the season, and lets not get into one of the prior posts about the sharks were ending a road trip, big deal. So the rangers can chalk up a semi slow start due to the fact they started in europe, then flew to the east coast for one game and then played a western canada road trip? I dont hear the rangers making any excuses. It was a dumb comment, coming from the most clutch player in hockey, esp playoff time. failing to neglect the fact that they are without their best player Marc Staal who provides a physical presence and is tremendous defensively, and Lundqvist also didnt play last night. I dont know, Callahan looked pretty good to me fighting through bigger defensive players in the crease and tapping home goals. The sharks are more talented than the rangers for sure, but give me a break with a comment like that a few weeks into the season. The rangers will improve as the season goes on and the sharks will always put up a ton of points, and of course be knocked out as usual.

Is that particular line really dumb, though? He's not exactly wrong - they're not physically imposing and they've been pretty weak on all fronts this season. I imagine he's speaking out of frustration, basically saying "We shouldn't have lost to these guys of all people," but still, the Rangers ARE pretty soft. He's angry his top-tier team lost to a struggling one that he (perhaps correctly) perceives as not being as challenging as others they're been able to handle.

Kind of a head scratcher for him to say that AFTER the game. In the words of a former Shark, "Wow, like what's the point?" Even if he thought it, I don't see why he would say it.

Maybe he said it because he believes it. The Rangers beat the Sharks on the last day of a 13 day, 6 game east coast road trip. I'm not saying he is right, but fatigue can be a factor, especially for west coast teams on these long trips. Does anybody actually think the Rangers are a better team then the Sharks because they won tonight? The Rangers were desperate to get a win at home, they played well and got one. And no comments about the Sharks not getting it done in the playoffs- because its the first month of the regular season and when did this Ranger team do anything?

Wow the Rangers were clearly the better team tonight and not sure why Joe is saying they are soft.

A cynic among us could say that its easy for Jumbo Joe to call out a team he doesn't have to see again this year and the odds of them meeting in the SCF would be fairly small.
