If your team is banking on Avery to give you a spark, you know you are in trouble. But this shouldn’t be a surprised to anyone. The Rangers haven’t seemed to get it all right since ’94. King Henry has been their best player but he can’t do it all.

I still think the bigger concerns are Tortorella’s style not meshing with the players he’s got and Sather’s batshit contract insanity leaving them with no money to fix their defensive holes, but they really need a sparkplug player. Callahan’s not exactly a go-to captain (more the result of them having no-one better than anything), so they need to get a push from SOMEONE. You’re right – Avery’s likely the guy.

The Rangers have looked horrible so far this year. They lack any sort of spark, and they have no players in their lineup capable of sparking their team. Avery will be that guy. Like him or hate him, its a fact that the Rangers were a better team with him in their lineup over the last few years… and hopefully will be again.

I never say ‘I told you so,” but I did say that at some point in the season, a team would get desperate and Avery would be back in the NHL. There ya go.
