No you are right. But hockey players let their pride get in the way. You would be considered soft if you wore a cage in the NHL. Cages are only worn when an injury has already occurred. There are some visors that cover from the top lip up.

You know, I'll preface this by saying I've never played hockey on any level (and I'll likely get voted down for saying this), but even with the use of a visor someone could get hit in the face/eye. I've seen numerous instances of this. How come nobody ever brings up wearing full cages or some kind of visor/cage hybrid? I know it won't look too hot, but with pucks and sticks flying around it seems to make a hell of a lot of sense.

actually, i am surprised it's still a players decision. too much money on the line for both the player and the team. i wear a shield and have no problems. the new shields are so much better than they were before.

Yea it's ashame that this happened to Prongs. I do wonder if guys really take into account what happened to Bryan Berard. If I played in the NHL, I'd wear the Dany Heatley visor (Oakley modified Pro Aviator). But like Stakex said, I still should be their choice. Thankfully Prongs didn't suffer any eye lose.

Quite a few people have had their career cut short due to eye injuries. I have no idea why the debate about shields gets brought up every single time such an injury occures. I mean, everyone knows these injuries are possible... so why all the suprise when it does happen?

Every single player out there has the choice to wear a shield. If they choose not to and get hurt, its their own fault.... but it should still be their choice.
