I'd be surprised if a contender picked him up, honestly, even if he was interested. One of the low-seed long shots, maybe, but the top eight or twelve just don't need him. He's shown signs of slowing down in recent seasons. Even if his '09/'10 performance WAS great for a (then) 37-year old, his '10/'11 performance was entirely more typical and likely to be repeated - he's old, he's not likely to play a full season, etc. All the top teams have guys who do what he does anyway, and most - the Flyers, 'Nucks, Caps, Sabres, Pens, Kings, Sharks and Rangers, particularly - couldn't find the room. Well, the Rangers could if they kicked Wolski somewhere, I guess. That leaves what, the Bruins and Ducks (they're good for right-wings, thanks), the Wings (do they REALLY need another playmaker?) and the 'Hawks as far as major contenders go, and the 'Hawks are the best shot. And they aren't a good shot. He could theoretically make a long shot with the Devils, Stars, Isles or Blues, but are any of them winning the Cup this year? No.

It's a damn shame for a guy to work his whole career away and not get his share of the glory, but Alfie's not likely to do it. There's just no place for him on the teams that have a good chance.
