Agree with many of the comments here, but the news is in - Letang was suspended for 2 GAMES. Consistency be damned. The NHL continues to be a joke with regard to discipline and really most everything else (marketing, image, management, etc). Elbows to heads - they're OK, because we don't have a concussion problem. But, here, well that is when we HAVE to act.

How else is he suppose to play the puck along the boards? IS he suppose to leave himself facing letang? How does he accomplish that? Letang had an opportunity to hold up and choose to drive him into the boards.. If he had bumped him no foul, but he drove him into the boards... Dangerous play.. Sit a game.. If the goal is to get rid of dangerous plays then there can't be a lot of gray. We had that problem last year. Onus is on the checking player not the checked player as written in the rule.

When Malone didn't get suspended for hitting Campoli Shanahan said it was because Campoli leaned into the check after Malone had committed. Should be the same deal here. Hopefully Shanahan will prove he's going to be consistent with his decisions

I have seen more players turn towards the boards this year, its a dangerous and cowardly way to play. I hope when handing out suspensions this behavior is noticed and those guys that purposely turn towards the boards should be given a penalty themselves.

Burmistrov turned towards the boards as he hit him. Minor penalty, fine, but a suspension would be ridiculous. As far as I know, Letang doesn't have a history of anything like this and wouldn't be considered a repeat offender.
