Fairly accurate, but he’s more about players from Ontario, he mentions at least being one a week as being “a good old Kingston (insert ontario town or city here) boy”

To sum up Don Cherry:
Loves fighting, but criticizes “dirty play.”
Hates European players.
Hates French-Canadian players.
Seemingly not too fond of the players from the Maritimes.
Not really all about the Americans either.
Doesn’t like the speed and open play that has increased the revenue of the game…

Did I miss anything?

OH! Supported the invasion of Iraq.
Not to criticize his hockey knowledge, I have never heard him announce a game, so I wouldn’t know. This is all based off of things I read about him in various reputable and non-reputable sources, and videos of his random quotes. He’s just a jerk, plain and simple. He doesn’t want the game to change. He would have only Western Canadians play it and kill each other doing so.

You’re right I don’t watch Cherry much anymore, I got bored of his act a long time ago and I don’t like watching the Maple Leafs. Cherry was a bad player, a mediocre coach and really has no greater knowledge than the rest of the hockey media, he just has a bigger soapbox and says it in a much louder and more obnoxious way.

90% of his segments consist of 1. A clip of a “good old Ontartio boy” 2. Kids watch this clip 3. Sending a shout out to someone “going through a tough time” wrap that up in some jingoism and you’re done.

Now compare that to Kelly Hrudey who actually has valid points and indepth breakdowns of the game currently going on. Which is more relevant?

I don’t always agree with what Don has to say but he knows more about hockey than almost anybody, and a lot of the time he has some good points to make. You obviously don’t watch much if you think he hasn’t said anything relevant in years (no-touch icing, equipment size, fixing the edge of the boards, etc). He will NOT get replaced by Mike Milbury, Don has more hockey knowledge in his beard than that jerk

Don Cherry needs to be fired, not just for these comments but for the fact that he hasn’t said anything relevant in years, and they should replace that idiot McLean along with him. Their act is stale, if HNIC were into doing things properly they would replace him they would give the spot to Kelly Hrudey, he’s insightful and has well thought out points. But instead they’ll try to replace one blowhard ex-coach with another by giving it to Milbury.
