And a 2 game suspension. I thought at first Shanahan looked to be the firm hand we needed. But a suspension when Cavert caused the high stick? Hell, plenty of goons on every roster to go out and throw his lips on an opponents stick like this. Wonder if Sid Crosby or Alex O would get suspended for this play. Utter nonsense

I was watching the game – my husband and I watched in several times in slow motion from different angles (yay HD DVR) to see what happened because we know PMB is NOT a guy who goes out to hurt people; having missed an entire season due to concussion, he knows the cost of injury. Calvert hooked his own stick under Bouchard’s and jerked it up, trying to keep PMB’s stick off the puck, and he jerked the stick right into his own face. I’m sorry that he’s hurt but it was not Butch’s fault. The only way it could be a “baseball swing” is if the pitcher was issuing an intentional walk. As a hockey mom I’m delighted the NHL is cracking down on dirty hits and intent to injure, but this is definitely not an instance of intent to injure. By the way, the Blue Jackets ought to be ashamed for putting an A on Wisniewski’s sweater even though he’s serving an eight-game suspension for a vicious head shot made after the final horn in a pre-season game. They are hypocrites and sore losers.

Calvert does redirect stick into him but Bouchard goes for the slash on Bouchard and you have to control your stick in the NHL at all costs. So no Shanaban for this, just the maximum fine, which is pocket change for Bouchard. Move along…

No doubt PMB’s stick was going for a slash, but one of those, soft off the faceoff jabs… if Cavert didn’t raise Bouchards stick, this play would have never been noticed by anyone… please please give us your take of the story. would love to hear from ya

agreed… and not to mention it’s coming from the softest player in the league. No one avoids physical play like PMB. this is a non story just highlighted due to the fact it does look pretty bad because the stick went right to his mouth…. this was not intentional like the over reacting coach is claiming. he needs to get a grip on his bad team before passing blame on others. GET REAL. In the end Bouchard is responsible for his stick and he will accept anything that comes.

Anyone who isn’t blind can see it was completely unintentional. In fact it appears Calvert hit Bouchard’s stick into his own face.
