Yes, it is a steep price. Yes it may cost Shelley a roster spot.

Explain to me the downside? Shelly could have cost Boyce his season, or his career.

Too bad they can’t take back Rosehill’s instigator penalty.

Take it one step further and place Shelley’s game checks into an account that suppliments injured hockey players pensions.

I’m all for hitting and fighting in the game, but this was neither. It was a cheap-shot on a defenseless player by a repeat offender. 10 games is just fine with me, and I’d say the same thing if it was a Leaf hitting a Flyer. Hits like this one have no place in the game

NHL needs to start punishing teams too. The flyers won’t miss Shelley. NHL should not allow flyers one on the bench for 10 games too. Then you’ll see coaches, and teams policing their players.

Unless preseason games are played for free, it hits his wallet just the same. That’s where the deterrent is.

15-20 games? Are you freakin serious? On a hit that didn’t result in an injury? what’re you tryin to do ? pussify the game? It didn’t deserve ten games. Five at best and that’s pushing it.. It’s sickening whats being done to sports today. It’s a friggin contact sport,shit happens.

Gotta say I love the video explanation for suspensions now… hope they keep that up. Always sucked having absolutely no idea what was behind past decisions by the league, especially the ones that left us all scratching out head.

Well 5 regular season games is a pretty serious suspension in of itself to be honest. I mean how many times do you see someone suspended for 5 games? Not that often at all… so its not a slap on the wrist or anything.

Personally, I’m fine with a 5 regular game suspension from this. Given Shelleys history of reckless play I wouldn’t have been shocked by a longer suspension… but I think 5 games (plus what ever you deem the pre-season worth) is a solid call for such a play.

It’s a pretty steep price considering Shelley is fighting for a roster spot. This could cost him a spot on the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Flyers squad.

I don’t know how you guys feel but it seems the 10 games should be regular season and not a mixture of both. To me missing preseason games isn’t enough of a deterent.

before this turns into “the flyers are unclassy just like their fans”, we dont like shelley either for the most part. apparently hes a nice guy, hes just fairly useless and overpaid on the ice. wouldnt be surprised to see him get waived here.
