You have a complete misunderstanding of why Poile made the trade. Unlike Toronto, where the lemmings pay astronomical dollars to watch the regular season, the Predators are on a budget. Lombardi is not insured because of his prior concussion problems so his $3.5 million has to be paid by the team whether he plays or not. The was an actual dollars issue, not a cap space issue. The Preds, although much better managed than the Leafs, do not have the luxury of taking the chance on paying a player that can't play. Burke didn't make a great trade; he had the dough available. Poile knew exactly what he was doing and had to approach teams that have proven to spend/waste money over the years. As a Bruins fan, I would like to thank the genius for helping the B's win the cup and providing us with a budding superstar. Poile and Chiarelli are the best two GMs in the league. And Lombardi is a good guy; I hope he has a great season.
