DD is doing the smart thing. And I know LAK fans don&#039;t want to hear but put yourselves in his shoes.]]></description>

Yeah there&#039;s safety in that you&#039;ll be getting nicely paid for 9 years, but on the other hand if the team falls apart or they decide you&#039;re not needed you could end up playing 5 years in some terrible market. Ask Jeff Carter if he&#039;d like the chance to renig on his deal.]]></description>

He wants that shorter contract so that if the Kings stink, which is possible for any team, he can go make mega bucks and have a chance to win a Stanley Cup(s).
