He was expected to be “the guy” for the Penguins, along with Staal. With Malkin and (hopefully) Crosby back, he’s a piece on one of their lines, and in theory, he should thrive. He certainly did well with a playmaking center in Richards before.

On a lesser note, he was pretty snakebitten last year. Tons of chances, but he just couldn’t bury them.
