It really depends on what the front office wants the C to mean. If they want someone who is going to get sound bytes and lots of press attention for flippant and comical comments – then Pronger is the right choice. If they want someone who is going to give a more professional interview and be a traditional C – then it is Briere you pick.

You are dead on icelovinbrotha215, Giroux is the future captain of this team and these are the 2 guys to show him the way. Richards should have seen the writing on the wall when Giroux emerged as a star who is willing to lead and be vocal on top of abilities Richards could only dream about.

You could name any Joe Schmoe captain and it would hardly make a difference. Leadership is important, the actual letter on the sweater isn’t.

I had just assumed it would be Pronger since all last year there were rumblings that the locker room was divided between he and Richards. With Richards gone, logic would say it will be him, but maybe you go with Briere so as not to alienate the guys that were on Richards side of the locker room.
