This is the problem with supply and demand in pro sports: Richards is not as good as the money he got would indicate because he was head and shoulders above the rest of the free agent class. That fact won’t stop the Rangers’ fans and media from expecting him to live up to his contract, which I just dont see happening, especially in a pressure-cooker like NY. Even if he has a good season by his standards he will probably still seem like a bust because the Rangers overpaid to get him (not that they had a choice, that’s how you get the top free agent). It’ll be interesting to see how he does though, he could very well have a huge season playing on a talented team like the Rangers

Good call. You could probably throw Giroux, Briere and maybe even JVR together in a big “justifying Richards and Carter’s absence” category. Maybe we’ll need an extended edition …
