Dude they have a section on profootballtalk.com called “Turd Watch” including a “Days without an arrest” meter on it. The Florio empire was practically been built on that – of course people care when it happens in the NFL!

True, but it’s Sean Avery were talking about. I wasn’t there either but I don’t doubt the cops showing up was enough to provoke him. I’ve done my fair share of stupid things but I’ve yet to assault a cop and until then anything I say about Avery is not hypocritical

One thing I would like to point out is this: We really have no idea what happened at said party. We know what the police are saying. Who knows if things happened exactly as they said. I’ve met my fair share of cops over the years who are extremely confrontational, and do all they can to provoke people. In fact, I’ve seen cops respond to a party I was at because of the noise (and cars parked on the street), and instead of asking nicely for the music to be turned down… they started yelling and barking orders. I can kinda see someone being drunk lashing out at such behaviour from police. I’m not saying these cops definatlly provoked this…. but it IS possible.

Also, I bet at least half the people trash talking Avery over this have done some really dumb things while drunk. Its not an excuse of course, however I am willing to be there is a lot of hypocicy going around.

Another intresting point: When someone like this happens in the NHL, its front page news. When it happens in the NFL, no one cares. Kinda funny how that works.

Like many people, he needs to learn where the ice ends and real life begins.

Many people foolishly equate fighting on the ice with street fighting. Most aren’t hockey fans, and most would genuflect in front of Ali. Ironic, ain’t it. It’s two different things.

Avery doesn’t understand that his bravado, while entertaining on the ice, doesn’t translate outside of the rink. Especially when dealing with the police. The cops are not an opposing team to be challenged or intimidated. They must be laughing their asses off down at the Hollywood precinct. C’mon Sean, get it together.

Having said that, $20k bail for a drunken scuffle with the cops sounds a bit high, no? I see armed robbery and worse all the time for smaller bail than that, at least in MA. Maybe it’s based on your ability to pay (to ensure that you show up), but it sounds high. Sounds like a fun party, but I feel for the neighbors.

I dont care how much money you have, it doesnt give you a license to be a douche (not that Avery needs one). I hope youre not one of those Rangers fans that makes excuses for him and talks about what an effective player he can be and all that bs. the guy is scum and I hope he doesnt have a spot an nhl roster next season

What an idiot this guy is. Hopefully people will realize his antics on the ice are not a result of him being an effective player but rather an arrogant jerk with no respect for his opponents or teammates (or apparently people in general). I hope the Rangers come to their senses and get rid of this clown for good. He’s a disgrace to hockey, nothing more
