C’mon Winnipeg, surely there’s more talent and creativity in the city than THAT, eh?

If you look at the original six logos, most people think they’re timeless, neat, and generally great, but that’s only because of the deep and rich history of the clubs. Look at them without the sentimental attachment. The Bruins Wagonwheel, The Toronto Maple Leaf, if released today would be called uninspiring and boring, and people would wonder if the guy who designed the Canadiens logo had graduated from preschool yet.

But most of us consider the original six logos iconic because we associate them with Gordie Howe, Guy Lafleur, and every other childhood hero. Plus those logos have always been there and are as familiar to us as an memory of the sport.

I’m glad the team didn’t go with something cartoonish, with a whole bunch of text, or over the top. Simple, neat, timeless was and is the way to go.
