@islandersfan... The difference between the guys you named (Lidstrom and Recchi) and Yashin is summed up in one word: character. This first two are high-character team players while Yashin is a high-maintenance diva. Not the kind of guy you want around young players!

The reason having Weight in the role he had the last couple of years worked so well is he was a good locker room leader. An Eldar statesman to have the kids look up to so to speak. Recchi, Lidstrom and other players playing at an advanced age generally do that because while they have some on ice value (Lidstrom is special and has a LOT of value) because they take the kids under their wing and show them how its done. Has Yashin ever been accused of being a team leader? Not to my recollection.

If he goes anywhere it is to a team that has a lot of Vet's on it already that just needs some goal scoring/powerplay help. Boston would be a good fit for him, as would Detroit. On the Islanders all he would do is stunt the development of the great team we have developing.
