Stanley Cup goes missing briefly on Nathan Horton’s day with the Cup

Jul 17, 2011, 12:00 PM EDT

Nathan Horton, Tammy Plante-Horton AP

Now that the summer is in full swing so is the Stanley Cup’s travels all around the world with members of the Boston Bruins as they each get a day with the world’s most famous trophy. While the Cup ends up in parades all over the place and turns into everyone’s favorite party favor, sometimes things don’t go smoothly as keepers of the Cup from the Hockey Hall of Fame hustle to keep it moving around all summer.

Unfortunately, sometimes things get held up around airports. Shocking news, we know, to those that travel via air enough. We’re sure we’ve all got some nightmare tales of getting frisked too heavily by TSA or getting boned over trying to make a connection or getting stranded at an airport but when you mess with the Stanley Cup, that gets noticed.

Such is the case for Boston’s Nathan Horton who waited for the Cup to arrive to him in Buffalo today only to find out it hadn’t arrived. Horton’s wife, Tammy Plante-Horton took the airing of grievances to Twitter to share how the world’s most famous piece of luggage got lost in the shuffle.

source: Well that’s a huge problem. As Plante-Horton went on to tweet, today was Nathan Horton’s day to show it off and he has to make the most of his time because it’s then off to the Czech Republic next. This means for however long it goes missing, it’s cutting into Horton’s day with the Cup.

Fortunately, there’s a slightly happy ending to all this as it turns out travel snafus had more to do with the Cup going missing in the meantime as Plante-Horton again tweeted for the world to see.

source: If you’re looking for that tweet in Plante-Horton’s timeline, so are we as she later deleted it. Take that for what you will. That said, we’re sure that’s a fun conversation to have when the folks at the airport say the bag has gone missing. It’s not as if this was a bag of clothes or unmentionables here, it’s the Stanley freakin’ Cup. The happy ending to all this is that the Cup didn’t go missing. Here’s to hoping this airline experience doesn’t totally ruin Horton’s day with the Cup.

If you’re feeling like things always conspire against you when you travel and you’re getting hassled too much by TSA or it’s your bags that get lost or your flight that always gets delayed, take comfort in knowing that not even having the Stanley Cup with you is enough to guarantee you efficient passage to your destination.

Hmm, if I had one day to spend with the Cup, why would I bring it to Buffalo?

  2. bruins2011 - Jul 17, 2011 at 2:24 PM

to get some peace and quite cause no one will recognize the cup.

  3. crusty14 - Jul 17, 2011 at 2:32 PM

Nathan Horton is from Dunneville, Ontario, located on the shores of Lake Erie. Buffalo is the closest airport, so I’m sure he was just picking up the cup and taking it for the half hour drive back home to Canada,

No one really wants to spend the day in Buffalo, not even people who live in Buffalo!!

    • nhlbruins90 - Jul 17, 2011 at 9:36 PM

That’s what I figured. With that Cup in the back seat, he probably doesn’t have any problems crossing into Canada.

  4. dcent87 - Jul 17, 2011 at 3:45 PM

Figures the boston retards would end up geting it lost

    • hystoracle - Jul 18, 2011 at 10:33 AM

He probably forgot where he put it – Post concussion syndrome and all.

Does Horton’s wife moonlight as a stripper or something?

    • nhlbruins90 - Jul 17, 2011 at 9:55 PM

I seem to remember reading that she posed for Playboy or something. Is she a stripper? While I don’t know, I will go out on a limb and say absolutely not! Her husband makes a very good living. She might make a good living herself for all I know. She has a beautiful young son. I’ve seen her interviewed on TV and she seems smart and engaging. So no, she’s not out stripping at night.

    @dcent87
Who cares how long it takes to get from one player to another. It belongs to the Hub. To the Boston freakin’ Bruins!. What’s your team doing this summer?

  7. muttbolts - Jul 17, 2011 at 5:29 PM

Any team that has greg campell, cant say they won fair.now that colin stepped down someone on boston might get suspended this year.only stepped down cause he got his son a cup win, like he promised.* boston cup champs*.

    @muttbolts:

To paraphrase Archie Bunker, “You are a meathead. Dead from the neck up…!”

  9. muttbolts - Jul 18, 2011 at 1:57 AM

Explain why horton was not suspended for game 7 against bolts.he spayed a fan with a water bottle then threw it at him.nhl rule book automatic ban.look it up.too bad hes ok from that clean hit

    • mgp1219 - Jul 19, 2011 at 12:33 PM

because it was only a Tampa Bay fan he threw the bottle at.

  10. muttbolts - Jul 18, 2011 at 1:58 AM

Oh yeah, his gf not a stripper. Call girl, just left me ten dollars poorer.wasnt worth it.she smelled funny

  11. nickr214 - Jul 18, 2011 at 8:24 AM

Somebody is pissed they didnt win the cup. Ok say cambell stepped down before this season. I think the bruins proved they can win without their best players

    • hystoracle - Jul 18, 2011 at 10:37 AM

Tim Thomas played in every game.. They never had to deal with the loss of Chara and/or Thomas for any length of time. So, it is undetermined if they could have actually won without their best players.. Probably not given how often Thomas bailed them out during the playoffs.

  12. muttbolts - Jul 18, 2011 at 11:17 AM

Not mad.remember bolts won in 04.just like the game to be fairly called.no responce on horton not getting ban.torys got two games for samething vs was. Only happy for thomas, all other bruins can die.wont even win div this year withoit best player colin cambell.

    • mgp1219 - Jul 18, 2011 at 12:43 PM

      hey muttbolts…..

you big whine bag. get over it. your team lost to a better team, THE 2011 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS BOSTON BRUINS!

      end of story.

      have a nice day!

    • nhlbruins90 - Jul 18, 2011 at 1:54 PM

Muttbolts, not only did the Bruins beat you Bolts last Spring, but the Red Sox beat the Rays in 16 innings last night. When it rains it pours, don’t it.

      • hystoracle - Jul 18, 2011 at 4:02 PM

One goal in a tightly played seven game series. That series could have gone 10 more games and they would have split them.

And your comparing a $150mil+ team to a $40mil team with no offense? That’s about as lame as Muttbolts whining. I’m a Bolts fan and it beginning to irritate me. Season is over let it go. New year, let’s move on and focus on this upcoming season. 82 games – new challenges.

Let’s see if the Bruins can escape the injury bug again this year. The only guy lost for any time was Savard and that was almost a given at the start of the year with his concussion issues.

      • nhlbruins90 - Jul 20, 2011 at 11:01 AM

        hystoracle,

It was a great series with Tampa, and you got a good team down there with competent management and a coach that’s fun to watch. Some of the best players in the league too. No arguments there.

The B’s however did face some tough injuries at the worst time, besides Savard who was a big part of the offense. Remember Horton going out at a most pivotal point in the playoffs? Who gave us much of a chance after that. And Bergeron suffered a concussion as well. Thank God it was mild. Where was the offense going to come from?

The key was that the whole team came through to pick up the slack when nobody gave them much of a chance. It was a team that was at its best when backed into a corner. That was the difference.

As for the Sox beating the Rays, no arguments there. With the salaries the Sox (and Yankees) can afford, they’re just doing what’s expected. When I see the Sox fans almost outnumber the Rays and Orioles fans at their own parks, I can understand why other fans get a little tired of us here in Boston. Maybe we’re getting a little obnoxious, but hey, it’s been a long time for us B’s fans, cut us some slack for a few months.

  13. crusty14 - Jul 18, 2011 at 1:39 PM

Muttbolts….. Please do not post here again until you learn to spell and can form a proper sentence!

  14. muttbolts - Jul 18, 2011 at 3:44 PM

I was only spelling for all you tards to understand.WE WON WITHOUT AN INSIDER.Well good luck without cambell(colin).Oh yeah, the guy who sings anthem for boston sucks @ss.
