The Kings were willing to give him up for a 7th rounder by itself at that point to satisfy Smyth’s request to go back to Edmonton, but the Oil apparently insisted on requiring the Kings to take back a player. (The Sheldon Souray proposal, I am certain, was laughed off with extreme prejudice) Fraser’s a guy that they like enough to give a shot at a fourth-line role at a reasonable salary and leaves more room to pursue a replacement to Smyth on the market.
