I guess they’d have to ditch the serious articles like today’s piece on the Columbus line-up or about Ladd’s trip to Winnipeg & how it fits in the big picture of the Winnipeg market.

As a network/media corporation, NBC has a contractual obligation to provide coverage to all NHL fans in America; as journalists, they have an ethical obligation to do so without bias and with integrity. The Yerdon article serving as the basis of this story is not journalism–it’s pot-stirring and, as such, has no place in good sportswriting.

Again, report the news, don’t make it.

(The irony of NBC’s non-coverage of Horton’s Game 6 antics in that series compared to the self-righteous indignation over “the bite” is really rich, btw. To be fair to the website writers, the hypocrisy was more noticeable on television with Mike Milbury’s apoplectic ranting. I suppose we can at least be thankful that he left his shoes on.)

Here’s a hint, guys…you’re supposed to be reporting on the news, not fabricating it by taking statements out of context. Instead of writing crap like this, why not do a good story on Thomas’ goaltending style and why it’s not as wild as it looks? Or on how Vancouver owns the neutral zone, even when their offense is sucking eggs?

Oh right…that would fall under the category of “journalism” and not “entertainment”.
