The playoff rounds proved Bryzgalov had serious talent and could handle the pressure, not necessarily that he could carry the workload of 60 games a season. At the time Phoenix picked him up, it was still a bit of a gamble.

If Maloney can get ahold of a young goalie like Schneider who’s ready to be the #1, he should jump at the chance. I don’t know if he’s available, but he should be high on the list.

Interesting ideas, everyone, although a lot of them seem like development guys. My guess is the team might want a stopgap solution, whether it be a vet like Tomas Vokoun or a more polished backup primed to be a starter. Keep them coming, though.

The Coyotes already have a young blue chip goaltender in their system. Mark Visentin, star for Canada at the world jrs last year. He is a couple years away, no doubt, but I wouldn’t expect Phoenix to break the bank for a young free agent. A sturdy vet seems like the stop-gap they need.

Nabokov’s also out there. I’m sure the Islanders would give him away for a bag of pucks since he refuses to play there.

I think that Viktor Fasth, who’s playing in Sweden right now, would be a great fit for Phoenix. There might be a few bumps getting him adjusted to North American hockey, but I think in the long run, he’d be a great goaltender to have.
