I completely disagree with your assessment that the Downie hit on Boychuck was borderline. Its was incredibly late and unnecessary. There was in instance early in the series where Downie was clearly instigating Chara after a whistle. He had a hold of his sweater at the neck and was fulling his face down almost to kiss him. He did it three or four times before chara pushed him away. They both got matching penalties, so he clearly got the benefit of that call.

There are missed calls all over the place in hockey, picking out a few to make a point is frivolous. How about the high sticking call on Marchant when Malone hit him after the whistle near the net, which knocked him off balance and caused his stick to come up and hit Malone in the face? After the whistle hit, and if you watch the replay, after marchands stick hits malone in the face malones stick trips marchand. And only Marchand got a penalty. This stuff if common in the NHL.
