If you ever wonder about the value of a 'crappy' franchise, well, consider MLB. Their Advanced Media division was started about ten years ago with a million invested per club (30 of 'em) for what was supposed to be five years total investment. It was profitable and generating dividends after just two years. If it were to be taken public with an IPO today, it would generate many billions. Each team has an equal share of MLBAM. So if you see a whole lotta empty seats in some of these parks, don't weep for those owners.

Now, does the NHL have hidden value in its 'crappier' franchises? Don't know about that. They've done a decent job recently though, no doubt about that.
