Boston plays a very condensed, almost passive defense that allows other teams the outside virtually uncontested. This allows for a great deal of shots on goal but not many are credible scoring attempts – they’re all long blasts from the blueline or tough angle shots while rebounds get cleared out.

tl:dr – It’s not Boston’s personnel on the blueline, it is their defensive style that leads to such high shot totals.
