Really good points about head shots – I guess I thought is wasn’t too bad because he didn’t launch at him, but I did call for him to be suspended for the series for the reasons you state. I don’t really dislike the Sharks – even though the Hawks swept I think the Sharks could have won three of them. So I have plenty of respect for the Sharks. I’ll be rooting for you against either VAN or Detroit for sure. I was referring more to the contract offered to The Hammer that we had to match, perhaps costing us Niemi. Nothing wrong with it, just wish it hadn’t happened! Have a good one.

If L.A. planned on making it a “street fight” then they sure did a piss poor job of it. I would think there would have been 4-5 other offenses instead of one singular episode.

LOL, did you really just pull a hit out of the archives from last year’s playoffs? I think Link Gaetz had a cheapshot somewhere in the 1992-93 season that I could probably find on YouTube as well. I’ll search for that….

As for the Heatley situation earlier this year, fan sentiment here was that he definitely got what he deserved and I think another game or two there was probably warranted.

That Doug Murray hit, when broken down from a different angle, showed that he got him shouler to shoulder and Franzen had turned to look at him when the hit was delivered. There was no blow to the head. Completely different situation.

I love the Red Wings and their fans — come out there every year for a game and actually have a Darren McCarty jersey — so no further comment about that series necessary. Just think we’re looking at two very different situations. That shot on White last night was horrible, whether you’re a Sharks fan or not.

and let me go on record as saying I’m against headshots in the NHL. I think Stoll should get at least a game for this one. But I also think this same play happens 40 or 50 times in every game, and most of the time the guy doesn’t get his face mashed into the glass. I think White was off balance and Stoll didn’t realize it. Of course he meant to hit him, but I doubt he meant to crush him like that. NHL has it’s hands full after all the Matt Cooke debacles and the free pass they gave Chara late in the season when he almost killed Pacioretty from Montreal. Not sure how they could justify bouncing Stoll for a whole series when Chara essentially got a pat on the back and a handshake from NHL.

Sanjosecupcrazy – what about when it’s one of your guys delivering the cheapshot? How did you feel about the elbow that got Heatley suspended late in the season? Or how about this beauty from last year’s playoffs against the Wings when Doug Murray didn’t get a penalty called on him for this cheap shot to the head of Franzen?

I’ll be upfront and say that I’m a Sharks fan. My first reaction to the hit was outrage — obvious being a fan of the team. After the game, I sat back and tried to view the hit from a neutral perspective — how would I feel if I was watching the game from a non-partisan point of view.

I have to be honest: it looked more than malicious to me. White wasn’t moving, he was just standing there. Stoll had plenty of time to size him up and purposefully delivered his forearm directly and forcefully to the back of White’s head, pushed him into the boards with it and continued to hold him there. Then, while still holding him, he began to look around for an official to see if he’d been caught.

My perspective on this is that LA knew that, without Kopitar, the only way they were going to beat the Sharks in this series was to “BEAT” the Sharks — make it a street fight and get San Jose out of their game. Terry Murray’s comments before the game seem to indicate he wanted it that way.

As someone who has suffered 13 concussions myself through various sports growing up, I’m sensitive to the head injury issue and it’s time to see whether the NHL is serious about punishment on that type of a hit. Stoll should be done for the series. White probably is — there’s no reason his punishment shouldn’t match that.

As for the Blackhawks fan who doesn’t like us: dude, you swept us in the Conference Finals last year — you have scoreboard. Go take care of Vancouver for us. (By the way, went to the United Center for a game this year — love it out there.)

I don’t think Stoll had malicious intent – he’s no Cooke, for sure. The trouble is that teams aren’t too afraid of losing a so-so player for 1-2 games to try to intimidate (or injure) a Crosby, Sedin or Kane. Losing the player for a longer time might provide a different approach. Regarding the 1-2 games is like 7-10 logic – the same thing goes both ways; the player he injured could be out a few games, which could cost a team a series (I don’t think the Kings would win anyway).

I think the hit was fairly border-line, but definitely over that line. I think 1-2 games is plenty; that’s 7-10 regular-season-equivalent games. Too bad this had to come from Stoll, a player that has already been on the other end of a couple of these hits and has dealt with concussion problems himself.

Not a fan of the Sharks – they messed with my Hawks in the off-season. That said, the Kings should lose their guy for the rest of this series. The league MUST find a way to get its message across, and one game ain’t gonna send the message.
