Unfortunately real life can be ugly to talk about. Former Leafs/Habs/Sharks star Vincent Damphousse was arraigned on six charges of domestic abuse today for allegedly assaulting his wife Allana Henderson between the years 2008 and 2011.

Damphousse did not appear for his hearing and will be back in court over the summer. With any situations like this you always wait for the full story to come out before damning anyone but this obviously looks ugly for Damphousse. Domestic abuse is awful and for things to get to the point where the police get involved looks even worse. Here’s to hoping that Damphousse and his wife can get the help they need.

During his NHL career with four different teams, Damphousse was a solid scorer and ended his career with 1,205 points after playing 1,378 games with the Maple Leafs, Oilers, Canadiens, and Sharks. Damphousse retired from the NHL in 2005 before the league returned from the lockout.

couple points here…agree, naturally , that domestic abuse is awful…but can’t agree that it looks worse when the police get involved…all that is required for the police to lay a charge is the initial complaint..that’s all that is needed to drive the charges…no proof, no evidence…no anything..once the woman picks up the phone…you’re as good as handcuffed…proof, evidence , due process comes later…secondly, I don’t think this looks bad at all for damphousse..as you say..the full story needs to come out…but my oh my, it sure doesn’t pass the smell test to have the wife come out, during a divorce proceeding , and claim abuse occurred over the last 3 years…why wait? leverage in the proceeding would have nothing to do with it i’m sure…the sad part is, domestic abuse is an unfortunate reality in our society, also sad, and also very prevalent while rarely discussed, are false allegations and unsubstantiated accusations that destory lives ahead of any due process.
