Goal of the Night – Nicklas Backstrom (March 3)

Mar 4, 2011, 9:00 AM EDT

Nicklas Backstrom, Derek Roy

Aside from the occasional night off – or the even less common instance when a save or goal isn’t deemed worthy – the gang at PHT will decide which tally or stop is the best of any given night. Once those two winners are determined, we’ll share our reasoning (and most importantly, the video clip for each) in posts for your viewing pleasure.

Spring training is underway and the Washington Nationals might want to look towards Sweden if they need a contact hitter. It’s always great when we get to see one of those goals that will be on the “Best of…” highlight packages at the end of the year. The refs (and Toronto) said Backstrom’s stick was below the crossbar and it was a good goal. Whether it was or not, it was a beautiful display of skill. Watch and enjoy. Don’t feel guilty if you press the “replay” button, I did it twice.

Show this to all the morons who diss hockey. Hockey players do things on skates that NFL, NBA or Major League guys couldn’t do in sneakers.
