If its good for the game, you have to do it. Look at what the NFL does to promote its players. Even if the NHL does more (and I’m not saying they don’t), they need to tell more people about it. Watching Mike Rupp play with his kids or Eric Fehr bring toys to poor kids on Christmas is good. Showing people what players go through is good. And, it makes for excellent TV. (Also, hearing Crysby’s voice crack and listening to him whine about someone sneezing is hilarious).

This is a great move all around. Hopefully NBC wont undo all the great things the series does for the sport with their horrendous broadcast like they did this year.

Professional sports are a business, and the Winter Classic is nothing but a money/publicity making gimmick. If you want to take part in it, you have to be on board with that. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
