Yes, there are a handful of very nasty injuries that likely could have been avoided if everyone had a visor. However, considering all the games played every year the amount of serious injuries that a visor could prevent are extreamly small. Its not like 10 players a year are losing eyes or anything.. which would of course be a good reason to requier visors.

To be honest though, its probably going to be a moot point fairly soon. The vast majority of younger NHL players seem to wear visors, likely becuase they have to wear them in juniors and are use to it. Thus, in a few years most NHL players will likely wear them anyway… meaning the NHL can avoid the issue (and the controversy behind it) all together and let nature take its course.
