It only started getting coverage when it was approaching 20 games and it was set to be the longest since the lockout.
Plus he's in the Winter Classic. If Ovechkin had the streak, I guarantee the coverage would've been the same. It was an interesting subplot heading into the Classic.

Besides that, there hasn't been a streak like this in a long time, with a player averaging 2 or more points per game for that long of a stretch. That just doesn't happen in hockey anymore....it was unique to the current era of the NHL.

Couldn't agree more.

besides, I fail to see the big deal with this streak. Crosby wasn't even half way to the best point streak ever (Gretzky obviously, with a 51 game 61 goal and 92 assist streak). Crosby didn't even come remotely close to making a run at it.... so really, why is this all we have heard about for a couple weeks now? I really fail to get it.

Rest assured that if it was Stamkos or Ovechkin with such a streak, we wouldn't have seen nearly asm uch fan fair about it.

Not a shot on Joe's good reporting.... but...

Paul Stastny had a 20 point streak as a rookie. Shouldn't the NHL favorite phenom be more than just slightly better than a rookie? Ok, I admitedly prejudiced... and sick of the Crosby phenom.

I'm glad it's over so the hockey world will remember that others are actually playing the game well.
