You seriously have to look at MORE than market size before making this statement.

Your worst market (Ottawa) was 12th in REVENUES two years ago (I don't have the updated numbers).

It doesn't do any good to have a 0.01% share of a HUGE maket (see Atlanta) when you can have 99% share of a LOWER market (like Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg or Quebec City).

What's is difference if the market size is smaller if the fans go and support the team? Currently Atlanta, Columbus, Nashville, Miami, Tampa, Dallas, Phoenix, Raleigh all have NHL franchises but have little to no fan support. The negative financial gain and the resulting watered down talent are doing more harm to the game than good. I would argue that franchises in Canadian cities would be better supported despite the financial hurdles making it a more viable NHL option. Retract 5 of those teams listed above and move three. Move one to back to Winnipeg, Quebec, and how about Seattle anyone see the support their soccer team gets....that's right soccer gets fan support in Seattle. Enough with trying to force the NHL into markets where it's warm and the populace loves collage football and Nascar, it won't work.
