This afternoon’s starting goalies - December 5th (update)

gyi0062208469-bobrovsky

Whether you’re interested for fantasy hockey reasons or just want to know which goalie your team is playing in a given day, we thought it might be helpful to share our best guesses (based on various previews from newspapers and Web sites plus our own instincts) on who might start each day.

There is a 1 pm game, so we’ll give you that update now. Updated with Ottawa @ NY Rangers starters. Stay tuned for the remaining three later today.

1:00 pm ET game

Philadelphia @ NY Islanders

Likely Philadelphia starter: Sergei Bobrovsky - It’s slightly surprising that Bobrovsky is playing both games of the Flyers’ back-to-back. Even though Bob has been very effective, Brian Boucher is a capable enough backup that you’d think he would give him a breather in this situation. Then again, Philly needs to keep pace with Pittsburgh so I guess they might be doing the right thing. (Source.)

Likely NY Islanders starter: Dwayne Roloson - Just when it seemed like Rick DiPietro might finally have found his game, he flopped pretty badly against the New York Rangers. The Islanders rarely win with either goalie, but it seems like Rolo has been the stronger of the two this season. (Source.)

5:00 pm ET game

Ottawa @ NY Rangers

Likely Ottawa starter: Pascal Leclaire - Brian Elliott ended up losing a heartbreaker yesterday, as he essentially failed to win despite getting a shutout because he lost the shootout against Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, who was even more difficult to beat. We’ll see if Leclaire has better luck. (Source.)

Likely NY Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist - It sounds like another start for Hank as the Rangers try to take the medium sized momentum they earned from sweeping a home-and-home series against the weak sauce New York Islanders. (Source.)
