Today’s Starting Goalies - November 9

Whether you’re interested for fantasy hockey reasons or just want to know which goalie your team is playing in a given day, we thought it might be helpful to share our best guesses (based on various previews from newspapers and Web sites plus our own instincts) on who might start each day.

7:00 PM ET game

Edmonton @ Carolina

Likely Edmonton starter: Nikolai Khabibulin - Aside from an often-exciting youth movement, the one consistent positive thing for the Oilers this season has been the play of “The Bulin Wall.” (Source: Edmonton Journal.)

Likely Carolina starter: Cam Ward - I haven’t been able to confirm this anywhere, but Ward seems like the best bet whenever there’s doubt (and no back-to-back games).

7:30 PM ET games

Washington @ NY Rangers

Likely Washington starter: Michal Neuvirth - Braden Holtby earned a couple wins, but Neuvirth has been the No. 1 while Semyon Varlamov recovers from some hampering injuries. (Source: Corey Masisak.)

Likely NY Rangers starter: Henrik Lundqvist - Considering the fact that Martin Biron received the last start (and lost), chances are close to 100 percent that Hank will get the nod. (Source: Rangers Rants.)

Vancouver @ Montreal

Likely Vancouver starter: Roberto Luongo - It looks to be a clash of two workhorse goalies tonight. (Source for both: Habs Inside Out.)

Likely Montreal starter: Carey Price - I have to admit I was a little too negative regarding Price in my preseason predictions and such. (Source for both: Habs Inside Out.)

Atlanta @ Ottawa

Likely Atlanta starter: Chris Mason - He helped the Thrashers steal a win in his last start despite facing 55 shots. (Source: Chris Vivlamore.)

Likely Ottawa starter: Brian Elliott - No big surprise here, as he’s helping the Senators maintain their weird hot-and-cold vibe from the 2009-10 season. Better than cold-and-cold, right? (Source: Silver Seven Sens.)

Toronto @ Tampa Bay

Likely Toronto starter: J.S. Giguere (Source for both: Pension Plan Puppets.)

Likely Tampa Bay starter: Dan Ellis - He might inspire his fair share of obscure Twitter jokes, but he seems like the obvious 1a in Tampa Bay right now. (Source for both: Pension Plan Puppets.)

9:30 PM ET game

Calgary @ Colorado

Likely Calgary starter: Miikka Kiprusoff - The Flames might be up and down, but one thing seems to be constant: Kipper getting almost every start. (Source: Roger Millions.)

Likely Colorado starter: Peter Budaj - It doesn’t seem like the Avalanche will get Craig Anderson back anytime soon, but Budaj is keeping them afloat with sometimes outstanding goaltending. (Source: Terry Frei.)

10:30 PM ET game

Anaheim @ San Jose

Likely Anaheim starter: Jonas Hiller - My guess is that the Ducks will put their top starter in net for this Battle of California, but I haven’t seen anyone confirm or deny it.

Likely San Jose starter: Antero Niittymaki - Can the Sharks win another game with Joe Thornton on the sidelines because of a suspension? (Source: David Pollak.)
