While tonight was an emotional night for the elder Bobby Hull in Chicago, a swirling rush of emotions most have overtaken his son Brett too. The St. Louis Blues honored the Golden Brett during their home opener tonight, unveiling a statue in honor of their great scorer of the ’90s.

Here are a few photos from the event, via the St. Louis Blues’ official Web site.

Here is what the “Golden Brett” had to say about the fact that he’ll be immortalized (or at least remembered) in statue form.

“When I was told about the statue, I was extremely honored,” Hull told the crowd gathered outside for the unveiling ceremony. “To be alongside two great players like Al (MacInnis) and Bernie (Federko) and the wonderful things they did, not only for the Blues but in their careers and in the community, it’s going to be wonderful to be here immortalized in bronze with them.”

The statue was designed by Jack Nortz of MTM Recognition.

Hull met with Nortz to discuss the project and posed in full uniform for photographs from all different angles. Nortz created a ΒΌ scale sculpture before beginning work on the actual sculpture, which took nearly three months to complete.

The final product joins those of Al MacInnis and Brett Hull in front of Scottrade Center’s main entrance at the intersection of 14th and Clark Avenue.

Hull might have won Cups win the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars, but his greatest individual moments came with the Blues. Congratulations to him on a much-deserved honor. He was a delight to watch as goal scoring phenom in the ’90s.
