Wait a second. Before you go calling the Hurricanes ‘Failurecanes’ keep in mind that they still have a Stanley Cup and Washington doesn’t. I love both teams, even if they have to play each other, and I still stand behind Carolina despite their rough last couple of seasons. I was born in North Carolina and lived most of my life in Virginia so they truly are my ‘home teams.’ So quit jumping on the bandwagon, kthx.

Steeler’s fans are quite often regarded as the best and most die-hard fans around the league. Have you ever seen the number of fans that travel to, or displaced fans that attend away games. Quite often they make the visiting field appear like a home game.

I’ll give Talbot his due for scoring those 2 big goals in game 7 and bringing the cup to Pittsburgh. I am a Wings fan, but also a hockey fan and it is hard to argue with anyone who states that Talbot has done more in big games than Ovechkin. That being said, does Talbot really need to say anything about this? Ovechkin may be a complete jerk in public, but he is good for the game. He has certainly helped bring fans to Washington and is good for TV ratings. So is Crosby, eventhough I don’t think much of him as a person. Think he whines an awful lot and didn’t like that he left game 7 of the ’09 finals and was apparently too injured to come back, but he still is a heck of a player.

Hey Matt, for the record, I’m a Caps fan as well. A bit insulted by your comments, but before that, I’ll tell you that I was born in Hartford, CT. Have you heard of the town? (in the news today essentially) I moved to Richmond VA 6 years ago and since the Caps were closer, than the Carolina Failurecanes, I decided to root for my “home team” For the record, I’m fans of both teams despite them being in the same division.
But you should be kissing us Hartford ‘I bleed green’ fan’s asses with those comments.
Let’s look at how many Stanley Cups you had BEFORE your team STOLE Ron Francis and Ulf Samuelsson for three crappy players. Oddly enough Eddie Johnston, the GM of the Whalers at the time, shortly joined the Pittsburgh organization. If you didn’t win those two Cups (something that wouldn’t have happened without that trade and those two instrumental players) you’d be talking about the Penguins from Phoenix or Carolina or some other town.

Actually most people in the DC area aren’t from here. So it’s natural that they are still fans of the hometown team. There seems to be a huge contingent of Steelers fans here because the job market is so much better. I know a lot of people that are fans of their hometown teams and after being in DC awhile, they become fans of the DC area teams, too. I know a lot of people insult the caps for having a lot of new fans, but what’s the big deal? A lot of these new fans take the time to learn about the game of hockey and become real fans. Part of it is the depression of being a skins fan after 10 years of Danny Boy. People here are football fans first but are learning to enjoy hockey, too. If you were a true NHL fan, wouldn’t you be happy for the league to become more popular?
About Talbot: personally I was surprised that he called Ovie names in public, I don’t think he should of done that. I don’t think Ovechkin will really pay much attention to him, he’s back in Moscow partying. Talbot is really beneath his notice. Perhaps Talbot was acting like a douche when he met Ovie so he got the same behavior in return? Or maybe he was upset that Ovie didn’t share his showgirls?

I live in the DC Metro area, and there is NO DOUBT that Craps fans are the biggest bandwagon fans in the country….in ANY sport. They try to hard to beat Pittsburgh in any sport, and they always fall short. The Pens have 3 cups and have won 8 out of 9 playoff series. That, my friends, is SCOREBOARD. The Steelers always throttle the Deadskins when they play. Even the Nats have the look of fairweatherness. NOBODY goes to those games, but when they get on a little roll, the fans come out.
PLEASE…spare us the crap that Pittsburgh fans are fairweathered. Not even close to Washington fans.
Talbot is telling the truth. Odooshkin is a big asshole. Crosby represents the game will, and nobody works harder. I’ll take Crosby 366 days a year. Dude is a WINNER.

It’s not the people that pick a random team that really bothers me, its the douches that pick the best team because their home team sucks. I live in the DC area and there are just so many fake fans here. For the NFL its almost evenly divided between Redskins, Dallas, Philly and Steelers, for NHL its Capitals or Penguins. NBA it’s, Lakers, Celtics, some Wizards fans and now probably Miami, its just very annoying. My opinion is that you should root for your hometown team, but it is different if you’ve lived in multiple cities. I lived in the DC area my whole life, so I root for all the home teams (Capitals, Redskins, Wizards and Nationals). Plus, I love being able to get news on my team, go to to few games and see them out in public.

Since when did someone have to actually be from the city to be a fan of a team? Growing up I was an Avs fan despite being from BC during the Bure days. They just happened to move the year I started watching hockey (I was 5) and I couldn’t not fall in love with Roy, Sakic and Forsberg. I’ve never even been to Colorado and have no interest in going but they’re still my second favorite team. They moved to number 2 when I stopped watching hockey during high school then started again in university and couldn’t help but love the Bertuzzi-less Canucks.
Of the 6 teams I like (other than the Canucks) I’ve never been to any of those cities or states for that matter. I never will go either. Doesn’t mean I like the TEAMS any less…

I am a diehard Pittsburgh sports fan. Doesn’t matter if that team has a losing season or not. I still root for the Pirates even though they haven’t had a winning season since like 92′. I 100% agree that Sidney Crosby is the biggest crybaby in the league. But what do you expect a team Captain to do? Just skate away and not make the refs realize somethings. Antagonizing the refs makes the refs more alert to stuff they wouldn’t have seen otherwise later on in the game. And while Crosby is the biggest crybaby in the league, Ovechkin is the the biggest cheap shot player in the league. Ovechkin rarely gets called for any cheap shot because he is a “Superstar.” Talbot won the Stanley Cup for the Pens single handedly in Game 7. As I recall Ovechkin has yet to score a goal in a Finals Game. I could probably score 50 goals a year to if I took 20 shots a game.

Talbot is a donk nobody, and its funny how crosby fans deep down wish he was a physical player not someone who whines and breaks his stick on the goal and gets manhandled by a goalie or cheap shot cross checks people from behind after the play. Oh yeah and that was all in 2010 not in his so called young whiny years.
Bottom Line: Caps owned the Pens in the reg season last year, they will probably do it again this year. The real test to shut up Pens fans would be to beat them in the playoffs, I would love to see another series in the playoffs with them next year.

You know, I’ve actually met Ovechkin in public once and he seemed like a really cool guy. He wasn’t the stuffed shirt you would expect from a guy like Crosby. Speaking of which, its funny for Talbot to trash talk Ovechkin when Im sure if there was a popularity contest in the NHL, we’d see in a quick hurry that Sindy Crosby is probably one of the least liked players in the game… being a little cry baby diver will do that. And while Ovechkin certainly wouldn’t win such a contest… I think its fair to say most of the Pens would fall far lower in the standing then Ovechkin, including Talbot.
I’m a Rangers fan so I have no bias in this conversation. To be perfectly honest, this sounds like staged media drama to make the Winter Classic that much more of an attraction. Because now every time Washington plays Pitt you’re going to see this mentioned and people will be watching to see if Ovechkin goes after Talbot. Its all just a media ploy to build excitement… which we don’t need since hockey isn’t baseball, and is actually exciting without drama.
