To ftj: What a load of crap…Wings are the MOST CONSISTENT team in NHL for the past decade, they’ve raised the bar in the competition…Mike’s GREAT player, he deserves Detroit, not Dallas who dumped him!

I hope he goes to the obnoxious and arrogant Red Wings. This way the other teams like San Jose and Minnesota can focus more on developing teams around more than just a one year player.

How can you chirp Modano for wanting to come to the Wings. First off the Wings are still the best team in the NHL no matter what happpened last year if Modano comes the Wings will win the final.

Dallas let him go, Dallas said “Hey Mike, 22 years is enough, go retire, we don’t want you.” Well Mike may have other plans. If Dallas had offered him a contract, then I would tend to agree with you, but they didn’t. They released him. Just because he played 22 seasons there then got kicked to the curb doesn’t mean he has to “retire a Dallas Star.” Dallas didn’t give him the choice, they said go away, Mike. But what if he wants to play? Those Stars that he supposedly owes something to don’t want him to anymore, so where can he play then, according to you? Clearly no where. I say sign with Detroit Mike.

I have been a Stars fan since they came to Dallas! Thru the ups and the downs. Modano is a hockey player. Thats what he does so to me, if he wants to play for Detroit fine, who cares! San Jose, Chicago or Minnesota doesnt bother me either! If you can still play Mike then play….if not then hang’em up! Dallas was “DUMB” for letting him go but what is done is done! He will move on and he will be missed. If he does play for Detroit then I will cheer for Mikey Mo when he is on the ice….not the Wings, just Mike! I hate the Wings almost as bad as I hate the Yankees! Sorry, thats just the way it is! You go Mike! Your still #1 to me! If you decide to keep playing then good on you, if not then it has been one hell’uva run….either way, thanks for the memories!

Dallas really should have found a way to hang onto one of the greats in hockey. Detroit is no more of a home than Minnesota would be. He’s lived in Dallas since the Stars moved some 18 years ago.
As a Wild fan, I’d prefer to see Minnesota spend the rest of their cap on younger talent that can take them more than one year into the future. I have much admiration for Modano, but the Wild need to start building more permanent contender.

Dallas released him, so it’s not like Mike has the choice to stay in Dallas. If he feels he has more hockey in him, which I believe he does, then he has to find another team. You should be more upset with the Stars than with Mike.

Looks like the Dallas fans are going to be as dim-witted as The Blackhawks fans. Chicago no longer wanted Chris Chelios. He wanted to play so Detroit picked him up. We won 2 Stanley Cups with him on our team. He was a much loved player here in Detroit. Now we’ve got Modano wanting to do the same thing. His fans are wanting to hang him from the rafters. So what’s he to do? Retire so appease people that don’t wish him well? I don’t think so. Let him come to Detroit. I’m not sure how much hockey he has left in him but I’d love to see him in the Winged Wheel. Of course he’ll never wear #9 here. That’s Gordie’s number!!

This is real simple. Modano is a hockey player who wants to continue playing hockey. Dallas doesnt want him to play for them anymore. If you really appreciate the guys talents, then why would you want him to retire when he’s happiest playing hockey. It doesn’t matter if he wins the Cup with the Wings next year or not, do you really think he is going to be remembered as a Wing? Think of Brett Hull, he won a Cup with Dallas and Detroit; but the overwhelming majority of hockey fans will remember Brett as a St. Louis Blue and they have never won the Cup. Let Modano play hockey if he wants to, he’s good for the game.

Who is the idiot that thinks a player abandoned by his team should not want to play anywhere else. Dallas didn’t want him, he wanted to keep playing, FOR DALLAS. They screwed him and now he has a chance to play where he grew up, where he has roots, where people have both loved and hated him and secretly wished he actually did play for the Red Wings.
Now he can end his career in his hometown, playing for team he grew up watching and wouldn’t it be great for him if Detroit could go all the way and he could retire with another cup under his belt AT HOME!!!
People from Dallas are bone heads, they don’t deserve a hockey team.

Letting go of Mike is one of the biggest mistakes that the Stars have ever made. Mike is a hockey player. A great hockey player. If Dallas wanted him to retire as a Star then they should have allowed him to retire on HIS own terms and not on their need to free up salary. Stars HAD the greatest American-born hockey player and cut him loose before his time. You say that he’s washed up? Well then why would teams like SJ,Chi, Boston or Det go after him? Because he still has lots of hockey left in him. Dallas is NOT that good of a team that they need to cut “the face of their franchise”. Are they? Not. Stop crying about him going to Det…he was born and raised there. His parents and friends live there. Det honored him back in 2008 at the Joe, because they respect him. you can talk all the wing hate that you want and it doesnt change the fact the Det is a class act. Mike is a classy player and Det respects hockey. The fans are great hockey fans…ALL YEAR LONG. Not just during wings games. Mike will sign for Det and he will HOPEFULLY be given a standing O when they open the season in teh AAC.

If Mike Modano decided to go and play for the Red Wings then I think it will be the biggest mistake of his career. He was a Dallas Star for 22 years and you should retire a Dallas Star. Forget what wife e poo tells you or what your pocket book says. Do the right thing and retire a Dallas Star. You owe that to your team and your fans. Was a huge fan since he came to Dallas but that will go out the door if he does not retire a Dallas Star.
