Kovalchuk signs with the Devils? Well, not so fast …

Jul 5, 2010, 2:07 PM EDT

James Mirtle notes on Twitter that the New York Post recently changed the headline for its original story on Ilya Kovalchuk. At first, the indication was that the New Jersey Devils were on the verge of signing Kovalchuk to a seven-year, $60 million contract. Compare and contrast the headlines.

So with that, the Ilya Kovalchuk saga continues.

Moving forward, I’ll let you know once an official signing is announced. Stay tuned, as that deal very well could end up coming to fruition … even if it doesn’t make complete sense to me.

From what sources close to the situation are saying that the purtrayed 7 year 60 million dollar deal is true……and Lou is trying to make room in the cap via trade.

Let me get this straight – he is willing to take a smaller paycheck to stay with the Devils instead of make more at the Islanders? Frankly – I think he is overrated seeing that he may score goals but he doesn’t bring home wins in the playoffs. Plus – he was useless with the Devils, never did anything productive with who they have. Lou – be smart, get rid of him and sign like 5 guys for one of his worthless paychecks.

Actually he will averaging 1 point a game when he was with the Devils. So I wouldnt say he was worthless, and when they were in the playoffs he was the best Devil on the ice.
