Kovalchuck is kidding himself if he honestly thinks hes worth $10 mil a year, and that hes going to get that from a really good team.
I'm not implying hes not a great player or anything, but the fact of the matter is that he has yet to prove hes worth the really big bucks. 40 goals at least per year is great and all, but its still not the best of the best... and Kovalchuk has very little playoff history and no one really knows just how well hes going to do in the post season. For all anyone knows hes going to pull a Hossa and have big issues scoreing when it really matters... which would make a team paying him $10 mil a year quite un-happy. Then his other issue is he wants to be on a good team. Any team thats going to be considered a cup contender right now probably doesn't need Kovalchuk, or couldn't afford him with a $10 mil price tag.
So either hes gonna have to accept reality and take what hes actually worth from a good team (around $7.5 mil IMO given lack of playoff record), take a big check from a team thats NOT a cup contender and repeat his Atlanta experience all over again... or do what I would expect with his money first attitude, and go to Russia already. Can't say I would really blame him if he does take the Russian money and run... he wouldn't be doing it for the money, he'd be doing it for a ---- load of money!
