Mo is getting older; there are people on the team half his age who are doing a great job of making plays, scoring, etc. They are also young, and after losing Lehtinen AND Turco AND (possibly) Modano, the Stars are going to be shorter on veteran experience and leadership. (Something I wish I had seen a little more of out of Morrow as well.) It may be Mark Crawford's strategy to have a younger, more pliable team in order to execute the kind of play he wants, which is still an enigma to me. Modano spent a lot of time on lines with some of the younger players, which signals to me that he was supposed to helping this kids earn their wings. That being said, I don't think Mike got as many scoring opportunities as he would have with a more seasoned line. That would have put a different light on should-I-stay-or-should-I-go question.
Would I like Mo to stay another year, even after I got a bit emotional at his most recent farewell send-off?
Yes, I don't think he's the dead weight everybody says he is, and I think he could be effective in putting the Stars in the playoffs.
Would I be offended if Mo went to play for another team?
San Diego, LA, Anaheim---yes. Phoenix, not so much. Dave Tippet should still be our coach, and in some ways, he's still mine. What he's done with Phoenix is nothing short of freaking impressive.
I wonder if we could oust Crawford and insert a Coach Modano...?

Let's be real honest about what we are dealing with here. Mike Modano is arguably the best American born goal scorer ever, but having said that he is not that guy anymore. Modano is 40 now and a 3rd line center at best so he is not going to be the reason you win games as well as the reason you lose games. i don't think a contender would want him except when it comes to playoff time when he could share his experience with younger players. If Modano should return, it should be with the Dallas Stars and thats it. How many superstars can say they played with the same franchise from day one. He won't be a difference maker on the ice for anyone anymore however.
Again, not to be negative here; Modano is one of my favorite players over the years, but his time has come and gone. He should keep looking into being a part owner of the Stars with Hull and Gretzky.
